    A vibrant, opaque Orange.

All rods are 30cm in length and 4-6mm in diameter. The 104COE, unless specified and is compatible with Effetre or Vetrofond Rods. Pictures are courtesy of Reichenbach.

  • "A vibrant, nearly opaque orange that shifts between translucent and solid. Striking deepens its tone, adding a unique look. Fumes to a golden iron finish with silver, and encased silver turns snowy white with hints of blue. Performs well with TerraNova2 frit for great colour effects. The only major reaction is with Copper Green, which produces a dark outline at the meeting point. Great for layered beads and adding depth."

    Tested by Melanie Graham

Annealing Temperature range is 505- 520 Celsius.

Another working note from our customer and tester, Liz DeLuca, said:

"In the flame, the glass melts easily and is soft to work with. It likes a neutral flame and if not careful, can scorch and burn easily.

The floral beads were made and assembled in the flame using brass tools and equipment. When pressed firmly between shape makers, the glass becomes thin and transparent, but thickens and becomes opaque in other parts. This gives a unique and interesting look to the bead.

The round decorative bead was made by pulling stringers from the rod, which remains solid and opaque in colour and looks. Scrollwork was easy to apply on the surface of the bead, and the stringer kept its firmness without weakening from residual heat.

In order to apply detail to the surface of the bead, this is where I scorched and burnt the glass, creating a dark smear which I could not reverse.

Once again, the spacer bead showed evidence of glass separation, giving the look that two types of glass were used- opaque and transparent in one.

This is an interesting effect but hard to detect in the bed while it is hot and molten, and can only be seen once the bead has cooled after annealing".
